The past few days have been September-like. Near 70’s and clear with a warm breeze. Yesterday we spent most of the day in the woods re-hanging the zip line to make it more fun for these kids who just keep growing! Today we spent the day hiking with friends in the Camden Hills. Sometimes homeschooling can be so tough! Stunning views, and so much sun. We learned a good lesson about the importance of water (bring more!) and that trees without leaves provide very little shade. Hardly a problem to complain about in November.
We’ve also been in a bit of a crafting spree, having whipped up several Halloween window decals inspired by Meri Cherry (so many great art ideas there), decorating gourds with paint and glitter, and discovering that shingles make perfect painting boards. We’re kind of hooked.
I remember learning this hand play/rhyme in Kindergarten and have never forgotten it. Each Halloween we do some kind of recreation of it, but never in 3-D. This was Kale’s idea, love it. “Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate. The first one said, “Oh my its getting late”. The second one said, “There are witches in the air”. The third one said, “Well I don’t care”. The forth one let out a terrible scream. The fifth one cried, “Happy Halloween!”

Of course there was Trick-or-Treating. Grandma and Grampy joined us this year, and we met up with a small group of friends as well. This was the first year Wylie has had no interest in Trick or Treating. I kind of made him go for 20 minutes (because I anticipated candy problems the next day–when he was the only one without any) then it was off to a big kid party. The next day he didn’t even complain about the candy.
As I said, growing.
Great costumes! We also use that pumpkin poem. The acorn pumpkins are a fun idea. We have had highs in the upper 40s to low 50s in the day here and upper 20s to low 30s at night. 70 sounds balmy!
